Dig 4: Mobile phone microscopy & ‘stained glass’ collage

August 19th 2017, Phytology - Bethnal Green Nature Reserve

Urban Mudlarking at the Bethnal Green Nature Reserve with Phytology’s Artist in Residence: Ellie Doney. Over the summer months Ellie will lead a series of public ‘digs’, urban mudlarking, excavating, analysing & archiving found materials.

11am till 1pm – followed by a shared lunch

Using a clip-on microscope and mobile phones will enable us to closely look at the site on micro scale, revealing the mini-landscapes within Phytology. The workshop will begin with a guided dig and foraging session to select items old or new, natural or man-made to look at using our phones.

Using the photographic and video footage captured, we will print the close-ups on transparent film, collage our own ‘stained glass window’ (to be viewed on the Phytology shed’s round window), and we will upload the films to the project website.
